You will have until the end of next week to complete it. Please click here to access the discussion board question. Make sure to view the instructions for responding to the following Discussion Board question: What are bias crime laws? (Why) Do we need bias crime laws? If the crimes committed, such as A & B are already illegal, why do we need hate crime statutes and/or enhancements? Please use course materials to justify your response.

A hate/bias crime is a criminal offense committed against a person, property, or society that is motivated in whole by the offenders bias against a race, religion sexual orientation, etc. Hate/bias crime laws are put in place to prohibit any of these act of biases. There are state and federal laws put in place to protect against bias crime laws. We do need bias crime laws in place to try and deter people from committing these unlawful acts; those who commit bias crimes should be held accountable for their actions and be prosecuted.
